We’ve added a trio of tunes to the playlist this week. A pair of bands you know and a relative new-comer
to the music game.
I’ll start with the newbie. I was first introduced to The Pretty Reckless a few years ago when they played KRROFest with Marilyn Manson. The band is led by 20-year old, Taylor Momsen. Before she started playing with this band, she was best known for her acting skills as a young child. Her biggest role was starring as Cindy Lou Who in How The Grinch Stole Christmas with Jim Carey. You can also see her in Spy Kids 2 and a regular on TV’s Gossip Girl. But, now she is all focused on her band, The Pretty Reckless. The band has a cool bluesy sound. The track we’re playing on KRRO, “Heaven Knows” is a fusion of killer lead vocals with a heavy blues beat behind and children singing in the background. It certainly isn’t the type of song you hear every day. But, before you know it you’ll be singing along to the catchy tune.
The next song comes to us from the Christian-rock band, Skillet. Not Gonna Die features both, John Cooper and drummer, Jen Ledger on lead vocals. They volley verses back and forth like a tennis match. What makes this song so good, is that both singers have separate styles of singing, yet it blends perfectly with the music of the band.
The final song added to the roster this week is from Volbeat. “Dead But Rising” is the third release from their Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies record. There’s not much to say that hasn’t already been said about this global sensation of a band. They hail from Denmark but, top music charts all across the globe. If you dig any of the other Volbeat tunes you’ve heard before, you’ll crank their new track just as loud.
