Not funny - Michigan town bans swearing

by Lunchbox

Even though this story isn't "HAHA" funny, it's "shake your head in disgust chuckle" funny, or "you've got to be kidding me laugh" funny.

The town of Brighton, MI has an issue with teenagers. Apparently a BIG issue with them, the police has started issuing $200 disorderly conduct tickets against them.

Back in April, a 19-year-old Brighton man named Colin Anderson, and his friends were hanging out in the downtown Brighton area, when he uttered a "swear word" and a police officer heard him. The officer did not issue a warning, according to Anderson, he immediately issued a $200 ticket.

Yes, $200 to say your favorite swear word in Brighton.

Now the argument was made that there is no DIRECT law or ordinance against swearing, but authorities pointed to the wording of the disorderly conduct policy for the town, which reads:

"...prohibit disorderly conduct, including language that causes a breach of the peace. The conduct must be considered within the totality of the circumstances in which it occurs."
