Rev. Timothy Nelson from St. Mary’s Parish and a group of about 40 residents in Jackson, Michigan were unsuccessful when they tried to get Godsmack and Pop Evil banned from playing at their county fair. According to pamphlets distributed at the church, Godsmack lyrics are “evil, strewn with obscenities and violent.” Nelson also took issue with openers Pop Evil, claiming, “It leaves the suggestion that evil is not that bad. Evil is very bad.” The group attended a fair board meeting on July 23 to try to get the show cancelled. Fair organizers said ticket sales did not suffer and have confirmed that the August 5th show will go on as planned. In reaction, Nelson said he would pray for Godsmack, Pop Evil and the members of the country fair board.
