For the first time in 15 years, the New York Yankees won't have the highest payroll heading into Opening Day.  That honor is bestowed upon the L.A. Dodgers this year.  They check in with a roster making $235M.  The Yankees are second with $204M.  Philly, Boston and Detroit round out the top five.

If you head to Target Field this season, expect to see metal detectors at a few of the gates starting on Opening Day.  Major League Baseball would like to have a standardized fan screening system at every MLB ballpark by 2015.

The Twins looked good in one of their final Spring Training tune-ups before breaking camp and heading north to Chicago for the season opener.  Mike Pelfrey struck out four, Joe Mauer went 2 for 3 and Minnesota beat Baltimore 4-1 yesterday.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers won their NIT Tournament game last night and have advanced to the semifinals in New York City.
