  • Kids Help with Disaster Response-  Saturday 10am to 3pm @ Non-Profit Center, 1000 N. West Ave, Sioux Falls
    • The Helpline Center is inviting kids to make a difference as Sioux Falls continues to recover from the recent ice storm. Youth ages 5 to 13 can spend Saturday making thank you cards and gifts for disaster responder. About 50 youth are needed from 10 a.m. to noon, and another 50 youth are needed from 1 to 3 p.m. Volunteers are asked to pre-register at www.helplinecenter.org or by dialing 2-1-1.
  • 4th Annual Baconfest-  Saturday 1pm to 4pm @ Downtown Colesium, Sioux Falls
    • For those who think they have what it takes to make the best bacon dish in the Sioux Empire. Proceeds help cover travel expenses for the teams multiple out-of-town bouts this Summer. Open to all ages and levels of culinary skill, Baconfest is a cook-off to celebrate perhaps the greatest food ever: bacon. The event is free to the public. To sample the bacon menu items, you can purchase a pork passport that entitles you to sample all dishes and vote for favorites. Pork Passports are $10 at the door.

  • State Theatre Hosts National Wine Expert @ 2nd Annual GenuWine Event-  Saturday 10am @ Sylvia Henkin State Theatre
    • Andrew McNamara, a nationally-recognized Master Sommelier at GenuWine, the State Theatres annual wine-themed fundraiser. McNamara is the former sommelier for The Breakers Palm Beach. Wine and Spirits magazine has named McNamara one of the best sommeliers in the U.S. He will host a limited-availability tasting before the main GenuWine event. The tasting will include difficult to obtain French Bordeaux and Burgundy wines form the 1980s and 1990s.
  • American Red Cross NE South Dakota Chapter Health Fair 2013-  Saturday 7:30am to 12pm @ Aberdeen Civic Arena
    • Features blood pressure, vision, hearing, nutrition, glaucoma, blood sugar, and posture screening.Cost $35, includes tests for: kidney disease, diabetes, liver disease, iron, anemia, thyroid, triglycerides, and cholesterols (good and bad). Many health information booths with valuable information, screenings, samples and door prizes. The Aberdeen Police Department: Drug Take Back, will be collecting expired and unused drugs and medications.
  • A Community Arthritis Health Fair-  Saturday 8am to 12:30pm @ The Prairie Center
    • Learn about new innovative approaches to managing arthritis pain and learn how to live with arthritis. Join at 7:30 a.m. for an arthritis warm up before the event. Educational booths will be held on all topics caring for arthritis along with mini-education sessions, with topics including: Rheumatoid arthritis, Acupuncture, Aquatic therapy, Tai Chi, Anti-inflammatory dieting and more.   • Bake, Rummage Sale to Benefit Local Scholars- Saturday 8am to 1pm @ Dell Rapids Middle School
    • All proceeds from the sale will go toward scholarships for young ladies at Dell Rapids High School and St. Mary High School, and will be presented at their respective National Honor Society banquets this spring.

  • 2nd Annual Sioux Falls Walk a Mile in Her Shoes-  Saturday 10am @ Globe University
    • April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and Globe University of Sioux Falls and The Compass Center (a rape and domestic abuse center) are teaming up. Men and women literally walk one mile in womens high heeled shoes to protest sexualized violence, educate the community, and raise funds for The Compass Center.   • Henrys Run 5k-  Saturday 10am @ Falls Park
    • Henry's Run is a 5k run/walk to raise awareness for child abuse prevention. All proceeds will benefit the Child Advocacy Centers of South Dakota and Child's Voice, to help provide child abuse prevention materials such as The Period of Purple Crying to new parents. This is a dvd to educate people on the dangers of shaking a baby.
