Washington D.C. (KELO AM) - U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) released the following statement applauding former President George W. Bush’s call for action on immigration reform in Bush’s speech at his Presidential Library today and in a recent interview with ABC News:
I applaud President Bush’s call for action to fix our nation’s broken immigration laws. He reminds us that we are a nation of immigrants and that “America can be a lawful society and a welcoming society at the same time.”
President Bush continues to be a leader on immigration reform and he has called on Congress to act. The Senate has passed bipartisan legislation that strengthens our borders and improves our immigration system; it works to develop common sense solutions for the 11 million undocumented individuals already living in our country.
The House should listen to President Bush’s advice and work for responsible immigration reform.
