SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (June 3, 2013) (KWSN)- Sioux Falls freshmen men’s pole vaulters Jagger Gran and Scott Greenman along with freshmen jumper Jazzelena Black have qualified and will compete at the 2013 USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships from June 19-23 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Gran, the 2013 NSIC indoor men’s pole vault champion and NSIC Men’s Indoor Track and Field Newcomer of the Year, cleared five meters (16 feet, five inches) at the NSIC outdoor championships, which matched the 2013 USA Junior Men’s minimum-qualifying clearance. Greenman vaulted a career-best 5.10 meters to win the NSIC outdoor men’s crown last month at Howard Wood Field.
Black, who hails from Oxnard, Calif., qualified for the both the junior women’s long jump and triple jump events. In the long jump, she earned a career-best mark of 5.96 meters (19 feet, 6.75 inches) at the 2013 Drake Relays and posted a personal-best of 12.34 meters (40 feet, six inches) in the triple jump at the 2013 Husker Invitational. The 2013 Junior Women’s qualifying standards are 5.94 meters and 12.32 meters, respectively.
The championships, which are to be held at Track Central USA, host the top track and field athletes between the ages of 16 and 19. Top finishers in each event will compete for the United States in Medellin, Colombia, from August 23-25.
Greater Des Moines and Drake University will serve as co-hosts of the event.
The freshmen trio qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field championships last month in Pueblo, Colo., where Gran earned NCAA All-American honors with an eighth place finish in men’s pole vault.
