SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Corrections Department says staff at the Sioux Falls Penitentiary helped prevent an attempted escape by an inmate earlier this week.
Secretary Doug Kaemingk says Silver McClanahan allegedly planned to escape during a medical transfer.
Kaemingk says staff informed security and the Division of Criminal Investigation about suspicious activity involving McClanahan and a parolee in the Sioux Falls area, Lloyd White Face.
The planned escape was prevented before it could be carried out.
McClanahan and White Face are charged with conspiring to commit aggravated assault on correctional staff.
McClanahan is serving a life sentence for manslaughter out of Brown County, White Face is on parole supervision in the Sioux Falls area. He was serving time for grand theft and third degree rape out of Pennington county
