SIOUX FALLS, S.D (KELO AM) - A National Foundation for Credit Counseling survey reveals that in spite of it being free, 62% of respondents had not examined their credit report.
According to Marley Prunty-Lara with Consumer Credit Counseling of Lutheran Social Services, a credit report is a financial report card that you should review often.
Prunty-Lara says 35% of your credit score is based on your payment history. She says the best place to access your report is through AnnualCreditReport.com. She says there are websites that charge you a fee, but don't pay it, take advantage of the free site and make sure the information on your report is accurate.
Prunty-Lara says you're entitled to three, free reports yearly from the credit bureaus that collect information from individual financial institutions that you do business with.
