Ex- Screaming Trees / Mad Season drummer Barrett Martin recently revealed that he’s part of a new band which includes Pearl Jam / Mad Season guitarist Mike McCready and former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan . Martin says collaborating with McCready on a few tracks for the 2012 self-titled debut album of his side project with McKagan, Walking Papers , got their creative juices flowing.
“Mike and I realized how much we loved playing together again and so…we wrote a bunch of new songs and we’ve been sending them around to singers that we love,” he tells ABC News Radio. “So far we’ve done a couple songs with Jaz Coleman from Killing Joke . We did a couple new songs with [Walking Papers frontman] Jeff Angell and there are other singers that are working on songs right now, but I probably shouldn’t say who they are because it’s not finished yet.”
He adds that the guys have yet to come up with an official name for the new project. “We’ve just been calling it The Triple M for, you know, McCready, McKagan and Martin…but it’s all in the works right now. I would definitely say that the spirit of Mad Season has got us all playing together again.”
While a release date for the group’s new music has yet to be revealed, the drummer expects that the tracks won’t be released as a full album. “These songs are going to be coming out on Mike’s new independent label, which is distributed by Pearl Jam’s label,” he explains. “I think the plan is that we’re going to release ten-inch [vinyl] singles of just two songs with each of these different singers.”
