SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO-AM) - A team of city leaders is meeting today to discuss safety at Falls Park. Two people recently drowned trying to save a young boy who had slipped into the river. Today's meeting involves officials from parks, risk management, fire and police.
Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether says they'll be discussing ways to make Falls Park safer and better educate the public about dangers at the park. Huether says officials are searching for a balanced response to the tragedy.
"If people want us to put a wall or a barbed wire fence around the falls, we're not going to do that. It just doesn't make any common sense," Huether says. "I think folks realize that where there's water, there's potential danger."
Madison Wallace and Lyle Eage Tail drowned at Falls Park earlier this month.
