While the future of Gorillaz is uncertain, fans will get the chance to experience one of the group’s projects this summer.
Monkey: Journey to the West , a theatrical production that features music by frontman Damon Albarn and animation from Gorillaz co-creator/artist Jamie Hewlett , will be staged as part of this year's Lincoln Center Festival . That event begins on July 6 at the David H. Koch Theater in New York City.
Monkey: Journey to the West is based on a 16th century Chinese folk tale which tells the story of a monk, Tripitaka, who travels from China to India to find Buddhist scriptures. The 100-minute program mixes traditional theater with cartoons, acrobats, contortionists and martial artists.
Tickets for the production will go on sale on April 8.
