Diabetes is proving to be a relentless disease

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The American Diabetes Association says almost 4,400 Americans are diagnosed daily with diabetes.

Association volunteer Janet Harvey say World Diabetes Day is Thursday and the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association is hosting a fundraiser.

Harvey says a Zumbathon is planned at “The District,” the recently opened entertainment center next to the Empire Mall.  She says the event was inspired by a 5 year old boy who was diagnosed in March with type one diabetes.  The boy's mother is an organizer of the annual "Tour De Cure" bicycle fundraiser held every spring and she is the force behind this new event.

Harvey describes the Zumbathon as a latin dance exercise party.

She says the fee is $15 for participants 12 and older and all funds go to the A-D-A.
