New York, NY (KELO-AM) Joan Jett will not be appearing with Mount Rushmore in New York City. Macy's has announced that the rock star has been taken off the South Dakota float in the annual Thanksgiving Day Parade and a replacement will be found.
Many ranchers and farmers in South Dakota complained that Jett, a vocal vegetarian and PETA supporter, was the wrong choice to help represent an agricultural state. In a statement, Jett said she did not want political agendas getting in the way of a fun event.
Rancher Scott Jones with the South Dakota Beef Industry Council says obviously Jett was the wrong choice and he is glad she is off the float. He has no favorite for a replacement except to say that the new pick should reflect the values of South Dakota.
The South Dakota float features Mount Rushmore, The Black Hills, The Badlands, and other state highlights.
