SIOUX FALLS, (KELO AM) - The team that rewrote the policies and procedures manual for the Juvenile Detention Center presented its final report to the Minnehaha County Commission today.
Director Todd Cheever says the manual brings the Center more into compliance with initiatives from the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative.
Cheever says the Center's biggest struggle will be over health care services. He says to implement that policy, the county is going to need a contract and that means a dollar amount. The policy reads that a child who is in detention for more than week must have a physical.
The Commission will consider adopting the new policies and procedures in two weeks. Cheever says the staff will be ready to implement the changes on November first.
The new policies covered intake, accessibility of visits, programming, training, due process, grievances, restraints and training of staff.
