VErmillion, SD (KELO AM) - The University of South Dakota in Vermillion, University of Wisconsin - LaCrosse and North Dakota State University in Fargo are three of 13 schools nationally losing its Reserve Officers Training Corps program.
The U.S. Army Cadet Command informed the schools this week.
The programs are being eliminated due to downsizing and "other fiscal developments." The program is scheduled to continue through the end of the 2015 academic year.
Cadets who graduate after May 2015 will be given the option to transfer to other universities that have ROTC programs.
North Dakota State President Dean Bresciani is disappointed that one of the top performing programs in the Midwest is being eliminated
South Dakota State and the School of Mines and Technology still offer the program.
