SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) A topping off ceremony for the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center will take place at the construction site on Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at 4:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend to help the City celebrate another construction milestone as the final beam is hoisted into the roof of the new Events Center.
Topping off ceremonies are an important custom in the construction industry. While the ceremony has roots in ancient tradition, today it is a signal that the highest point of the structure is now complete as the final beam is set into place.
The community will have three opportunities to sign the beam leading up to the Topping Off Ceremony. The 30-foot-long steel beam will make an appearance at these three locations this weekend:
Friday, October 11, 2013 5:30 to 7 p.m. Howard Wood Field Before the Washington vs. Rapid City Central high school football game
Saturday, October 12, 2013 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Empire Mall in the JCPenney north parking lot As part of the Paint the Plows exhibit
Saturday, October 12, 2013 3 to 7 p.m. Sioux Falls Convention Center main entrance
There also will be an opportunity to sign the beam on October 16 before the topping off ceremony at the construction site. Come out to sign the beam and make your mark on Sioux Falls history!
