DVAGI event attendees to get kicks on Route 66

Brookings S.D. (KELO AM) - The Design and Visual Arts Group, Inc. will hold its annual fundraiser Nov. 23, 2013, at South Dakota State University's Performing Arts Center. This year's theme is "Come get your kicks on Route 66!"The event, which started in 2004, will begin at 5:30 pm and features refreshments fit for the weary traveler.

Attendees will enjoy socializing while planning bids for the live auction. Live and silent auction items include artwork and design services provided by SDSU faculty, students, and local professionals and artists. Jonathan Larsen of Larsen and Larsen Auction Company will serve as the auctioneer and master of ceremonies.

One can preview auction items at the Brookings Arts Council 'Meet the Artist' reception Nov. 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.Jane Hegland, associate dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences and one of DVAGI's founders, said its fundraisers have raised approximately $100,000 to provide professional development scholarships for students in the majors of apparel merchandising, fine arts, interior design, landscape architecture, graphic design and visual arts.

Through DVAGI's efforts, students have studied in such places as New York City, Los Angeles, Dallas and Chicago as well as Italy, England, South Africa, Australia and Turkey.Tickets are $50 each or four for $150. Reservations are encouraged. To purchase tickets, call 605-688-4333.
