VERMILLION, S.D. (KELO AM) -- Noted author and Holocaust expert, Geoffrey P. He will also give presentations at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa. The lectures are free and open to the public.

Megargee's lecture, “The Universe of Nazi Camps and Ghettos,” at USD focuses on his work in charting the extent of the Nazi prison camp system and as the general editor on the Encyclopedia of Camps and Ghettos, 1933-1945 has earned national attention recently from news stations, including PBS’ “Newshour.”

Megargee is the Senior Applied Research scholar in the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. He is the author of War of Annihilation: Combat and Genocide on the Eastern Front, 1941 and Inside Hitler’s High Command. He received his M.A. in European history from San Jose State University and a Ph.D. in military history from The Ohio State University following stints as an army officer and in the business world.

The program is brought to northwest Iowa and southeast South Dakota by the University of South Dakota and Dordt College history departments and is co-sponsored by the Campus Outreach Lecture Program of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies, which is supported by the generosity of Dr. Alan Solomon, M.D.
