SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) -The winner of this year’s Federal Duck Stamp Art contest is South Dakota artist Adam Grimm of Burbank.
Rachel Levin with the Fish and Wildlife Service says Grimm’s oil painting of two canvasbacks will be made into next year’s stamp which will go on sale in June.
Levin says Duck Stamps are miniature works of art and appreciate over time. She says Fish and Wildlife is obligated by law to destroy all Duck Stamps that remain after their release three years earlier. She says that adds to the rarity value as well.
Levin says 98 percent of the fifteen dollars for a Duck Stamp goes to conserving wetlands habitat.
Grimm first won the Federal Duck Stamp Contest for the 2000 stamp
