It's only a rumor, but word on the street is that  Joan Jett  may be standing in for  Kurt Cobain  when  Nirvana  is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tomorrow night.

This morning on the  Foo Fighters '  Instagram page , there appeared a photo of  Krist Novoselic ’s bass,  Pat Smear ’s guitar,  Dave Grohl ’s drum set, and Joan Jett's battered white Gibson Melody Maker guitar.

Last week, in an interview  with  Rolling Stone , Hall of Fame President  Joel Peresman  confirmed that some form of Nirvana would play at the induction, saying, " With the exception of  Linda Ronstadt  and  KISS , everyone is performing."

Jett and the Foos are longtime friends and have played together multiple times, including on  The Late Show with David Letterman .

This likely means that R.E.M. frontman  Michael Stipe  will not be playing with Nirvana at the Hall of Fame induction, though he is scheduled to induct the band. Stipe was good friends with Cobain.
