Women's tennis drops to No. 2 in second NCAA Central Region rankings

INDIANAPOLIS - Augustana dropped one spot to No. 2 in the second NCAA Central Region rankings released on Wednesday evening. Despite winning their fifth consecutive Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship with an undefeated record, the Vikings were placed second, behind defending Central Region champions Southwest Baptist. The Central Region is comprised of the NSIC, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), and the Great American Conference (GAC). The conference tournament winner from each conference will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Central Region Tournament on May 3-5 and the next four highest-ranked teams will receive at-large bids to complete the seven-team field. The top two teams will east host with the top seed earning a bye in the first round.The Vikings are seeking their fourth straight NCAA tournament appearance as well as their fourth consecutive NSIC Tournament title when the conference tournament begins on April 27 in Minnetonka, Minn. Augustana received the top seed in the eight-team NSIC bracket and will face Minnesota State in the first round next Saturday.
