BURNSVILLE, Minn.(KWSN) - The Augustana volleyball team was picked sixth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Coaches Poll in a release by the league Tuesday morning.
The Vikings received 147 total points in the coaches poll, 27 points behind fifth-place Wayne State.Concordia University received 15 out of the 16 first-place votes by the coaches and led all teams with 225 points.Augustana's senior outside hitter, Courtney Ysker, was tabbed by the conference as a player to watch in the upcoming 2014 season.
Ysker earned American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American Honorable Mention last season. Ysker also received AVCA All-Central Region Honorable Mention, as well as being named First Team All-NSIC.The Windom, Minn. native was second on team with 413 kills (4.01 per set) and 361 digs (3.50 per set) in 2013. Ysker tallied a season-high 24 kills against Sioux Falls on Sept. 21. The senior had double digits in kills in 25 out of 30 matches last year.
Junior Kelsey Chambers from Northern State was chosen as the NSIC Preseason Player of the Year by the coaches.The Vikings are scheduled to open fall camp on August 18th in preparation for the Oredigger Classic held in Golden, Colorado beginning Sept 5.Augustana plays host for the second annual NSIC Challenge on Sept 12-13.
The Vikings open their 20-game NSIC schedule with Wayne State on Sept, 16 in the Elmen Center at 7 p.m.
