Gender abortion bill jumps first hurdle in Pierre


Pierre, SD (KELO-AM) He says sex selection is for livestock, not people. That was Father Kevin Doyle, a priest from Hoven, testifying at the State House Judiciary Committee in Pierre Wednesday on a bill to outlaw abortions based on gender in South Dakota.

The committee approved the bill 9-3 and sent it on to the House floor for continuing debate.

Bill sponsor, Representative Jenna Hager from Sioux Falls, testified that for cultural or social reasons some unborn babies may aborted simply because they are female.

Critics of the bill say that it would impinge on the right of a woman to choose abortion
