SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - South Dakota tourism faced major hurdles last year but still managed to bring in nearly two billion dollars.

Governor Dennis Daugaard says that’s an increase of almost three percent from a year earlier. Daugaard says the number of visitors where up three percent last year.

He says nearly 28,000 jobs were supported by tourism, meaning one out of eleven South Dakotans depend on the industry

Quite a feat, according to Daugaard, considering there were spring and fall blizzards, sequestration and a government shutdown.

He says for every dollars spent on marketing and advertsing, South Dakota gets $5 back.
