SIOUX FALLS,L S.D. (KELO AM) - South Dakota’s Ag Summit last week in Deadwood addressed transportation and how local governments care for roads and bridges.
Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Trudy Wastweet says the emphasis is on getting residents to think of roads as something other than expense.
Wastweet says roads need to be considered as an investment by both businesses and residents. She says hauling commodities begins on county roads, which connect with arterial highways, that finish at terminals, rails cars or at processing plants.
Wastweet says Lincoln County Commissioner Jim Schmidt talked about how local governments go through financing and investment decisions concerning roads.
