PIERRE, SD (KELO-AM) In his first veto of the current Legislative session, Governor Dennis Daugaard has bounced back to lawmakers a potential tax increase bill. It would have allowed Deadwood to increase it's hotel/motel tax by 50%.
Daugaard says he is against tax increases of any kind. He says he does not support expanding the ability of local governments to raise taxes, especially when the increase is not put to a public vote.
The bill narrowly passed so it's unclear if supporters have the votes to override the veto.
