Thune doubts energy amendments will move

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The U.S. Senate is debating an energy efficiency bill this week.

South Dakota Senator John Thune filed several energy related amendments hoping the Majority Leader will allow votes on them.  One of Thune's amendments would require an up or down vote on any plan from the Enviromental Protection Agency that costs $1 billion or more.

He says it's important that the people's representatives have a voice so agencies with far reaching agendas can't run amok..

Another Thune amendment would prohibit the E-P-A from finalizing any greenhouse gas regulations on power plants if they raise energy prices or destroy jobs.  He says the Department of Energy and the Government Accountability Office would have the final determination on prices and jobs.

Thune doubts Harry Reid will allow the amendments to go forward.
