Undated (KELO AM) – Luverne, Minnesota could soon be hooked up to the Lewis and Clark Water System, thanks to the Minnesota Legislature.
As part of the bonding bill passed by the Legislature, $22 million dollars will go to the construction of the pipeline from the Iowa line to Luverne and the Rock County Rural Water District. Luverne could get hooked up by the fall of 2015.
The pipeline has been underfunded by the federal government, resulting in delays in completing the project. The pipline would bring water fom the Missouri River near Vermillion, South Dakota to cities and other entities in South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota when completed.
Worthington, Minnesota is encouraged by the funding from the state. The city is hopeful that they will be next to get hooked up. Much of the snow and rain has missed the city recently, resulting in lower water levels and increased conservation efforts in Worthington.
