PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) – During the week of Jan. 31-Feb. 6, a total of 540 initial weekly claims for state unemployment benefits were processed by the Department of Labor and Regulation.
This is a decrease of 71 claims from the prior week’s total of 611.
A total of $1.2 million was paid out in state benefits, in addition to $1.3 million in Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC), $81,000 in Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) and $278,000 in Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) benefits.
The Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund balance was $158.3 million on Feb. 7.
The latest number of continued state claims is 5,415 for the week ending Jan. 30, an increase of 59 from the prior week’s total of 5,356. This indicates the number of unemployed workers eligible for and receiving benefits after their initial claim.
Benefits paid since March 16, 2020:
· Regular State = $99.9 million
· FPUC = $216.4 million
· PUA = $18.9 million
· PEUC = $5.4 million
Total = Approximately $340.6 million
