SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — In a campaign fundraising email, Gov. Kristi Noem says President Joe Biden is trying to “cancel our fireworks” at Mount Rushmore.
Earlier, the National Park Service denied the state of South Dakota’s request to have 4th of July fireworks at the memorial.
Noem says, “Now, as if we are children, President Biden is saying that if we behave and follow his rules, then he might just allow us to gather with some of our friends and family to celebrate the 4th of July.”
She’s asking contributors to sign a petition to allow the fireworks.
Below is the fundraising email.

Fellow American,
From the start, the media decided that no matter what, the only acceptable way to “follow the science” on COVID-19 was to lock everyone down in their homes.
So while I was attacked for keeping South Dakota open, heroes were made of governors like Andrew Cuomo. We all see how that worked out.
Now, as if we are children, President Biden is saying that if we behave and follow his rules, then he might just allow us to gather with some of our friends and family to celebrate the 4th of July.
On top of it all, his administration is trying to cancel our fireworks at Mt. Rushmore. It’s just too much, so I’m pushing back – but I need your help.
We are not a country that should be governed by fear, and we don’t need permission from the President of the United States to celebrate our nation’s independence with our friends and family.
Last year’s fireworks celebration with President Trump at Mt. Rushmore was a huge success, and we hope to continue that tradition moving forward.
Sincerely,
Governor Kristi Noem
