SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KWSN.com) – Here’s your morning sports update for Friday, March 4, 2022.
– South Dakota’s Chloe Lamb was named the Summit League women’s basketball Player of the Year yesterday. Lamb is the third Coyote to win the award and the first since Ciara Duffy in 2020. USD center Hannah Sjerven was named Summit League Defensive Player of the Year for the third straight season, the fifth consecutive year a Coyote has won that honor. Both Lamb and Sjerven were named first-team all-Summit. South Dakota State’s Myah Selland was also named first-team all-Summit League. SDSU’s Paige Meyer and USD’s Liv Korngable were named second-team all-conference. Three Jackrabbits earned honorable mentions: Paiton Burckhard, Tylee Irwin and Tori Nelson. South Dakota freshman Grace Larkins was named Sixth Woman of the Year; SDSU head coach Aaron Johnston earned the Coach of the Year award. Both the Yotes and Jacks start their conference tournament tomorrow. – South Dakota State sophomore Baylor Scheierman was named the Summit League’s men’s basketball Player of the Year yesterday. Scheierman joins teammate Douglas Wilson as a first-team all-conference honoree. South Dakota’s Mason Archambault and Kruz Perrot-Hunt were both named second-team all-Summit. USD’s Tasos Kamateros earned an honorable mention. SDSU’s Luke Appel was named Summit League Sixth Man of the year and Jackrabbit head coach Eric Henderson earned Coach of the Year honors. The Jacks are the first men’s team to ever go undefeated in Summit League play. They start their conference tournament off tomorrow night at 6 against Omaha. – Ryan Hartman had two goals and Jonas Brodin and Matt Boldy scored 25 seconds apart in the third period to lead the Minnesota Wild to a 5-4 comeback victory over the Philadelphia Flyers. Frederick Gaudreau also scored and Kevin Fiala had a pair of assists for the Wild, who snapped a four-game skid.
– Sioux Falls Christian and Viborg-Hurley girls basketball were among the teams that secured a spot in the state tournament in last night’s SoDak 16. We have the full scores at KWSN.com.
