SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The family of former U.S. Senator James Abourezk is planning a private memorial for the late Senator.
He passed away at his Sioux Falls on Friday, which was his 92nd birthday.
Abourezk served one term each in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate, where focused on issues affecting farmers, consumers and Native Americans.
He grew up on the Rosebud Indian Reservation and will be buried at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
