SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — South Dakota’s economy is booming, and about to get even hotter. The state’s 1.9% unemployment rate may be the lowest ever recorded in the U.S. That makes it more difficult for employers to recruit new employees. In an effort to help solve that problem, Governor Kristi Noem has unveiled a nearly 8-million dollar state grant program for apprenticeships.
The announcement was made at Howe Plumbing in Sioux Falls.
Company President Justin Howe says they’ve been operating apprenticeships at Howe for over 40 years…
The governor says the program can help to fill the 25-thousand jobs that are currently open in the state.
