So “Amazon Sidewalk” started yesterday & it’s a new feature that aims to keep devices connected to a network when they lose their link to a router. Sounds like a great thing, right!?!? Only, it’s NOT Amazon that’s stepping-up to ensure this happens……..it’s consumers!!! If you use Alexa/Echo or Ring products, you are automatically allowing a portion of your “low-bandwidth” network to be used as an option for this, unless you OPT OUT.
Amazon has assured all to not worry due to the multiple layers of encryption & blah, blah, blah so maybe you don’t need to worry, but call me old-school if ya want, I just hate it that I wasn’t asked “permission” & they just implemented it on the DL (down-low)!!!
Supposedly, things like cell phones & computers are NOT included in this Sidewalk feature. It’s for other Echo devices & Ring products, outdoor lights, motion sensors & other low-power devices. Tile Trackers will also be allowed for this starting on the 14th as well though….
To Opt OUT on Echo devices – Go to Account Settings through the Alexa app, then select “disable” under the Amazon Sidewalk menu.
To Opt OUT on Ring products – To to the Control Center in the Ring app, then go to Amazon Sidewalk options & “disable”, then “confirm”.
