SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The city of Sioux Falls is encouraging residents without street side trees to register for a permit to plant an approved tree.
Many residents are in new neighborhoods and are interested in filling empty spots, while others had roadside trees removed after the Emerald Ash Borer infestation swept through the city.
Trees can be planted, but must be approved by the city after an ordinance was passed in 2018.
The city says that diversifying the urban forest is vital after the Ash Borer devastated thousands of trees.
