YANKTON, S.D. (KELO.com) — Another South Dakota school district is requiring masks.
Yankton’s school board voted 4 to 1 Tuesday night to put in a mask mandate during the school day. The mandate would go away if COVID case numbers in the community drop below “moderate” levels, as determined by the state health department, and stay there for two weeks.
The board heard about ninety minutes of sometimes emotional public input both opposed and in favor
10 people in the district, two staff members and eight students, tested positive for COVID in the first week of the school year, according to Jerome Klimisch, Director of Student Services for the district. Four of the students were in elementary school, including a 4-year-old.
