PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — Influenza cases increased last week in South Dakota.
That’s according to the South Dakota Department of Health.
There were 89 confirmed cases of Influenza A. In the KELO Radio listening area, there were confirmed cases in Brookings, Clay, Davison, Lincoln, and Minnehaha Counties.
There were four hospitalizations in Pennington County. For the current flu season, nine people have been hospitalized.
Deaths from the flu remain at zero.
The department rates the current impact as “local.”

89 new confirmed* cases of influenza (77 Influenza A; 1-AH1; 10-AH3; 1-B) [Beadle, Brookings, Brown, Clay, Codington, Custer, Davison, Haakon, Hamlin, Lawrence, Lincoln, Lyman, Meade, Minnehaha, Oglala Lakota, Pennington, & Roberts Counties] were reported last week. Total of 150 confirmed cases so far this season (223A & 12B).
- 3.80% positive rapid antigen tests reported statewide (23 positives (18A/5B) [Beadle, Dewey, Haakon, Hughes, Hutchinson, Hyde, Jerauld, Lawrence, Lyman, Meade, Minnehaha, & Pennington Counties] out of 606 individuals tested last week). Total 4,688 tests performed so far this season.
- Four new influenza-associated hospitalizations (Pennington County) were reported last week. Total of 9 hospitalizations so far this season.
- Zero new influenza-associated deaths were reported last week. Total of 0 deaths so far this season.
