SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KWSN.com) – Here’s your morning sports update for Thursday, February 3, 2022.
– Jim Harbaugh will stay at Michigan after all. He has ended his dalliance with a return to the NFL after interviewing with the Minnesota Vikings for their head coach vacancy. The Vikings have targeted Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell for the job instead. Harbaugh will return to his alma mater for an eighth season. No offer of the job was made to Harbaugh, according to a report from the Associated Press.
– Cam Talbot made 30 saves for his first shutout of the season and the Minnesota Wild beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-0 on Wednesday night to extended their points streak to 10 games. Mats Zuccarello, Kevin Fiala and Frederick Gaudreau each had a goal and an assist for surging Minnesota. The Wild head into the NHL’s All-Star break on a 9-0-1 roll.
– Emily Ryan and Lexi Donarski scored 15 points apiece, Ashley Joens had a double-double and No. 11 Iowa State women’s basketball used a dominant third quarter to defeat No. 25 Kansas State 70-55. The Cyclones scored the last five points of the second quarter to lead 31-25 at the half and outscored the Wildcats 24-8 in the third to go up 55-33.
– Minnesota men’s basketball lost to fourth-ranked Purdue last night 88-73. Payton Willis scored 24 points and Jamsion Battle added 21 for the Golden Gophers, who lost their third straight.
– Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz says he wants to restructure an advisory committee of former players formed after a 2020 investigation found evidence of racial bias against Black players in his program. The timeline of when a new committee will be formed and who will be on it is unclear.
– A problem with ice-making equipment at The Premier Center is forcing the cancellation of the Sioux Falls Stampede’s games Friday and Saturday. The Herd says they will try to make up the games with Omaha and Sioux City. Hear every Stampede game on KELO-AM 1320 and FM 107.9.
