SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KWSN.com) — Here’s your morning sports update for Tuesday, February 8, 2022.
– South Dakota men’s basketball lost a heartbreaker to North Dakota State last night. The Coyotes had a 17-point lead with about nine minutes to go in the game, but a Sam Griesel layup with three seconds left completed NDSU’s comeback. The Coyotes got 21 points from Tasos Kamateros and 16 from Mason Archambault. Kruz Perrott-Hunt added 13 points. USD is now 6-6 in Summit League play; they’ve lost the first two games of a four-game run spanning eight days. – The Minnesota Wild are in Winnipeg tonight to play the Jets. They’ll look to stay hot after earning a point in each of their last 10 games. They were 9-0-1 over that stretch to head into the All-Star Break. Puck drop tonight is at 7 p.m.
– Empty seats are outnumbering occupied ones at Nebraska men’s basketball home games as the team grinds through one of the worst seasons in program history under coach Fred Hoiberg. According to figures provided to The Associated Press, the average number of tickets scanned is just under 7,200. That’s less than half of Pinnacle Bank Arena’s capacity. Three consecutive January games drew fewer than 5,800 fans. Athletic director Trev Alberts acknowledged some fans are staying away because of the mask mandate. But he said the team’s poor performance is the biggest factor and a major concern.
– Baltic and Colman-Eagan’s high school basketball teams split a doubleheader last night. The Colman-Eagan girls won 49-44 while the Baltic boys were victorious, 85-50. We have all the scores at KWSN.com.
