SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A winter storm is predicted to hit parts of South Dakota starting Sunday night. The Aberdeen National Weather Service anticipates a banded snow event for the northern tier of the state, which means snowfall rates can vary significantly within a few miles. While they have released a current snowfall prediction, they advise those numbers can and probably will change as the bands of snow shift.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol reminds travelers to have a winter survival kit in the rare event law enforcement can’t get to you. If you do get stranded in the snow, don’t leave your vehicle. And, if the snow gets deep, make sure your exhaust pipe is dug out to prevent carbon monoxide from getting inside.
