SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KWSN.com) – Here’s your morning sports update for Tuesday, April 19, 2022.
– The Minnesota Timberwolves look to take a 2-0 series lead tonight. The seventh-seeded Wolves upset the No. 2 seeded Memphis Grizzlies in Game One of their series on Saturday. Game Two is tonight at 7:30 p.m. from Memphis.
– Jorge Polanco and Kyle Garlick hit early two-run homers over the Green Monster to back Dylan Bundy, carrying the Minnesota Twins past the Red Sox 8-3 yesterday. Polanco added a two-run single in a four-run eighth and Gio Urshela had three singles for the Twins, who won the series finale for a four-game split. Christian Vázquez hit a solo homer and Xander Bogaerts had three hits with an RBI. The game started at 11:11 a.m. Eastern time as part of Boston’s Patriots’ Day festivities.
– Minnesota State goaltender and Hobey Baker Award winner Dryden McKay has been given a six-month ban for an anti-doping violation after leading the Mavericks to the Frozen Four national championship game. The suspension was announced Monday by the United States Anti-Doping Agency. McKay was tested by the agency as an alternate for Team USA’s Olympic hockey roster. A supplement he took to help protect him from COVID-19 was the source of the positive test. Minnesota State said in a statement that McKay had a mandatory provisional suspension that was lifted following a hearing in early February. McKay said in a social media post that he accepted the suspension so that he can be ready for professional hockey in the fall.
– Augustana men’s hockey has its first head coach. Garrett Raboin, an assistant coach at Minnesota, has been selected to lead the program, which will take the ice in the 2023-24 academic year. They’re having a press conference today to formally introduce him.
– The Minnesota Wild are in Montreal tonight to play the Canadiens. The Wild clinched a playoff spot with an overtime win over San Jose their last time out on Sunday. They currently sit in third place in the Central Division, one point behind St. Louis. Puck drop tonight is at 6 p.m.; coverage starts at 5:45 on 98.1 FM, AM 1230 and KWSN.com.
