PENNINGTON COUNTY, S.D. (KELO.com) — A hiker died in the Badlands Wednesday. The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office says two males from Missouri were hiking in the Badlands National Park when they ran out of water yesterday.
22-year-old Maxwell Right from St. Louis, Missouri, collapsed and died from suspected dehydration and exposure. The second male, a 21-year-old, was flown to Monument Health. He was being observed for exposure and dehydration due to the hot weather and lack of water.
The sheriff’s office says they were on an unmarked trail.
