BRIDGEWATER, SD (KELO.com) — Heavy weekend rains came just in time for area crops, with some places receiving over five inches. Much of the region has been struggling with drought conditions for a second straight year. We’ve been following Bridgewater area farmer Jason Hofer through the growing season. Today we hear from Jason’s dad, Arlo, who says the rain will help the corn and bean crops.
Based on his decades of experience, Hofer says the recent 100-hundred degree days left their mark on the corn crop.
Still, Hofer says farmers are in the hunt for a good crop.
Prior to the weekend drenching, Hofer says the beans were starting to show signs of severe stress.
None-the-less, Hofer says farmers will probably see average or better than average yields this year.
