PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — The state legislature has passed Gov. Kristi Noem’s concurrent resolution on how the state should spend surplus federal coronavirus funds.
The resolution accounts for about $597 million in unspent federal coronavirus relief funds provided through the CARES Act.
$400 million of that will go toward grants for small businesses, while another $40 million and $10 million will go to nonprofits and start-ups respectively.
The resolution also provides $115 million in grants for nursing homes and long-term care facilities, as well as $15 million to hospitals and $10 million for housing assistance.
Noem has ultimate authority on how the money is spent but is expected to abide by the terms of the resolution.
