SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sanford International confirms that the Minnehaha Country Club has voted not to host the golf tournament past 2022.
Tournament Director Josh Brewster says it’s a disappointing decision and leaves the future of the event up in the air.
” At this point, it is most likely the Sanford International will not exist beyond 2022 as a result of the decision by Minnehaha Country Club. Our focus now is on making 2021 and 2022 the best display of professional golf the PGA TOUR and this region has ever seen.”
Brewster says that the Sanford International has generated $60 million in local economic impact.
The country club vote was split 50/50, but tournament officials say the board of directors then decided against extending the contract.
The big tournament has featured the likes of Jack Nicklaus and other greats and put Sioux Falls and South Dakota on the national golfing map.
