SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — It’s a move that’s been in the planning stages for years. The USD Sanford Med School and biomedical research program will be moving from Vermillion to Sioux Falls in 2027. USD President Sheila Gestring says the move will strengthen the connection between students and major healthcare partners Sanford and Avera.
Sanford Health CEO BIll Gassen says it will improve the quality of health care across South Dakota by attracting and retaining “the best and brightest” students in South Dakota for their careers, as well as their education. The move requires legislative approval and fundraising efforts.
The med school would temporarily be housed in Sanford Health buildings, with plans calling for a new facility in the future.
