SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Law enforcement in Sioux Falls has something to brag about: violent crime is at a five year low. The city grew by about five thousand people in 2025, and as Mayor Paul TenHaken pointed out, “Not all of the new residents are choir boys.” On a per-capita basis, violent crime, and especially property crime dropped sharply between 2024 and 2025. Officials at all levels say the high level of collaboration between state, county and local law enforcement has a lot to do with the reduced crime stats. The public safety update is the last one for Mayor TenHaken who will be leaving office, and for Sheriff Mike Milstead who recently announced his retirement.
