SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Minnehaha County is working on a strategic plan to deal with homelessness. Social services agencies in the area are joining together to work on the plan. The effort is being financed by Vern Eide Motorcars CEO Jim Lake, who’s been involved with the Union Gospel Mission. Homeless numbers were lower in an annual survey taken earlier this year. But consultant Sharon Chontos of Northstar Solutions says the resources of the area serve as a magnet for people needing help. “Minnehaha County, as well as Pennington County, becomes a place where people come from other cities, other counties, even other states, because infrastructure here is conducive for services for homelessness.” The county and the agencies involved are working to have the plan take shape later this year.
