PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — Attorney General Marty Jackley says license plate readers are a powerful law enforcement tool, but public privacy needs protection.
He plans to propose legislation to provide that protection.
He cited this year’s disappearance and death of 14-year-old McKenna Wendel as an investigation strengthened by the readers’ use.
He says legislation is needed to ensure they’re only used for legitimate law enforcement investigations.
